How to cook Boiled Eggs in an Instant Pot

Boiled eggs are very versatile. They can be used for dozens of things. A quick and easy snack for those on the run, or a tasty ingredient for hors d’oeuvres. Here, I am going to show you how to cook boiled eggs in an Instant Pot. They’re so delicious!

I woke up this morning feeling like having some boiled eggs. I always like boiled eggs in the morning. They’re quick and easy to cook, and you can eat them on the go. They’re also very low on the dirty dishes. Unless you plan on using them for something else, you can pretty much take the eggs out of the pot, cool them, remove the shells, and eat them just like that.

If you want to take more time to cook, you can even have them as a part of a nice balanced breakfast with some delicious bacon and buttered toast.

But this morning, I wanted to use my new little toy to cook. The Instant Pot is an awesome little pressure cooker that has been selling like crazy for the last year or so. I wanted to try cooking some eggs in it to see how they turn out.

With no surprises, they turned out quite delicious, but hey; they’re eggs! It’s hard to go wrong with boiled eggs. Just cook them in water and you’re all good.

Boiled Eggs

Prep Time: 3 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes (plus 8.5 minutes for the pressure cooker to seal)
Total Time to Cook: about 15 minutes
Servings: Depends on how many you cook

Ingredients

  • Eggs
  • Water

Directions

  1. Fill your Instant Pot with one cup of water.
  2. Place your eggs on a steaming rack inside the pot.
  3. Lock the cover, and make sure the venting switch is set to Sealing.
  4. Press the Manual button on your Instant Pot.
  5. Set your timer for 5 minutes. After a few seconds, your cooker should fire up and start cooking!
  6. While waiting for your timer to reach zero, prepare an ice bath by filling a medium sized bowl with water and a few ice cubes. If you’re feeling really lazy, you can take a large pot and just fill it with really cold water.
  7. Once your Instant Pot beeps, carefully move the venting switch on the top to Venting for a quick release of pressure. You might want to wear oven mitts for this, because steam will spray out the top.
  8. Using tongs or the steaming rack, you can transfer your boiled eggs to the ice bath. This will allow your eggs to quickly cool and prevent from them overcooking.
  9. Peel off the shells and enjoy!

And that’s pretty much all it takes to make boiled eggs in the Instant Pot!

Notes and Tips

Most recipes suggest 6 eggs, but I managed to cook it with four without too much issue. I’ve heard of some who even fill their pots until full, but I have yet to try that out. Depending on how you plan on using your boiled eggs, you may want to set the cooking time to suit your needs.

I found that you can get hard boiled eggs by setting the cooking time for 7 minutes. For soft boiled eggs, I’ve used 2 minutes. It all depends on how you like your eggs.
